Henry G20 is an ambitious re-telling of the largest mass arrest in Canadian history – freely adapting Shakespeare’s Henry V to explore the conflict between the protesters and the militarized police force during the G20 protests of 2010. Chaos and clashes at the G20 Summit in Toronto drove unprecedented challenges to civil liberties and democratic process, and over a decade later, questions of leadership and accountability still remain.
At the heart of the play is Henry, a young female grassroots organizer. As she leads crowds of protesters - the activists, the idealists, the unions, the partiers, the families and civilians - into the fray of downtown Toronto march, she and her marchers encounter an unexpected battle ground, never seen before on the streets of Toronto.
